Full Day – Explore a Well Hidden Paradise in Athens

Starting from Rolling Turtles premises we will explore various well hidden treasures that only few local people know about!

We will head towards the city of Marathon, the birth place of the marathon – run. Right before reaching the city we will head south up in the woods in order to have a panoramic view from the whole area. That will give us the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful gems of Attica. We will visit some beautiful waterfalls where we will make a stop to enjoy the running waters and learn about the wildlife in Greece. If we are careful enough we might spots footprints of wildboars, wild goats and deer.

After our rest we will start our ascent again to reach the altitude of 400m above the sea level, having a panoramic view of the cities of Nea Makri and Marathon. We will make a stop at the church of prophet Ilias to learn about the glorious battles between the Greek and Persian armies. Our location will be ideal since we will better understand the strategy that was used back then in the great battle of Marathon.

Starting our descend with some technical off road, we will head out towards Lake Marathon, that holds a Guinness record since 1929. We will enjoy the view, the blue waters and have our lunch with a mesmerizing overview of the damn / lake while standing over the gorge of Inoi.

Leaving the beautiful scenery we will move further to the south of Attica. We will make two rover river crossings and then we will climb up to the Acropolis of Afidnes. We will talk about the importance of these old castles, how they were used, the technology of the old times and many more while having a drink altogether.

Full of new memories we will take the highway towards the premises of Rolling Turtles.
